Ever smile before you even open the door?
You know the sound.
The paws dancing across the floor.
The tail thumping like it might knock something over.
The little huff, whine, or happy bark that says, “YOU’RE BACK.”
And suddenly, whatever kind of day you had feels a little lighter.
If that sounds familiar, congratulations.
You are definitely a dog person.

It’s the little things you didn’t plan on loving this much
You didn’t bring a dog into your life thinking, “This will become one of the most meaningful relationships I have.”
And yet, here you are.
Laughing at the way they steal your spot on the couch.
Talking to them like they understand every word.
Feeling oddly proud when they sit politely or dramatically flop over for belly rubs.
They follow you from room to room like it’s their full-time job.
They notice when you’re quiet.
They know exactly when it’s time for a walk, a snack, or comfort.
Not bad for someone who sheds everywhere.

Dogs have a way of making a house feel lived in
There is something about a dog that changes a space.
Mud by the door.
Toys under the table.
That one sunny spot they claim every afternoon.
Your home stops being just a place you live.
It becomes a place where someone waits for you.
Someone who is genuinely thrilled you exist.
And that kind of energy is hard not to love.
This isn’t about being “extra.” It’s about being honest.
Dog people get it.
You don’t love your dog “like” family.
They are family.
They were there during big changes.
Long nights.
Quiet mornings.
Moments no one else saw.
So when someone says, “It’s just a dog,” you smile politely and move on.
Because you know better.

And yes, it makes sense to want that bond on your walls
Not because you are dramatic.
Not because you are obsessed.
But because this relationship mattered.
Seeing your dog’s personality, that look they give you, that goofy grin, or that calm presence brings you right back to a very specific chapter of your life.
One filled with loyalty, humor, comfort, and unconditional enthusiasm every time you grabbed the leash.
That deserves more than a phone photo you scroll past once a year.

For people nodding along and thinking, “Yep. That’s us.”
If you’re reading this smiling, laughing a little, or quietly thinking about how much your dog has changed your life, you are exactly who inspired something we care deeply about.
Tender Tails is a fundraising book project that was created for pet people who know, deep down, that they didn’t just rescue their animal.
They were rescued right back.
It’s for the ones who talk to their pets like people, spoil them without apology, and feel a lump in their throat just thinking about the day they won’t hear those paws racing to the door anymore.
Tender Tails is a way to pause and say thank you.
Participants make a donation that is fully given to Great Plains SPCA, supporting animals who are still waiting to find their person. In return, they are invited into a weekday portrait experience in our studio with their furry best friend, a discovery phone call, and the chance to write a gratitude letter to the animal who has given them so much to be published in the book with your favorite portrait of them.
It is not about posing perfectly.
It is about honoring a relationship that made your life better.
And yes, it is also about decorating your home with a love that deserves to be cherished and remembered, because these bonds matter.
If you are nodding along and thinking, “This feels like us,” you are probably right.

Is Tender Tails only for dogs?
Great news, crazy cat people work at the studio too! Tender Tails is for dogs and cats. If you have another beloved furry companion, you’re welcome to reach out and ask.
Where does the donation go?
All Tender Tails donations are fully donated to Great Plains SPCA to support animals still waiting to find their person.
What happens during the Tender Tails experience?
Participants enjoy a weekday portrait experience in the studio with their pet, a discovery phone call with Beth about what you love most about your pet, and the opportunity to write a gratitude letter to their pet for inclusion in the final book in your personal book spread with your favorite portrait from the session.
What if my dog or cat is not well behaved?
We’ve seen it all….that disdainful side-eye from a poodle, the corgi that has opinions about everything and the cats that couldn’t be bothered with us. That is completely okay. Tender Tails welcomes personality, quirks, energy, and individuality. Perfect behavior is not expected and truly makes your pet more who they are, quirks and all.
