Every February, something special happens when kids, music, and community come together.
Through Band of Angels, the non-profit arm of Meyer Music, instruments are placed into the hands of young musicians who might not otherwise have access. Violins, cellos, brass, and woodwinds are donated, carefully cleaned, refurbished when needed, and then gifted so a child can begin or continue their musical journey.
One of the most meaningful moments of the year happens in February at the Heartstrings Gala. This is a night where young musicians take the stage alongside seasoned professional performers, surrounded by friends, family, and supporters who believe deeply in what access and encouragement can do.
Some of these kids have only been playing for a couple of years. Others have been studying music for eight years or more. A few return to this stage year after year. What they all share is confidence, pride, and the support of a community that shows up for them.
How We Support Band of Angels
For several years now, we have supported Band of Angels by donating our portrait photography for the Heartstrings Gala. Our work is used across event marketing, printed programs, and the organization’s website. Over multiple days, we create portraits of the young performers, giving them space to have fun, show personality, and try something different each year.
There is laughter, movement, music echoing through the studio, and a lot of encouragement. We love watching kids lean into who they are, express their style, and feel confident standing in front of the camera. For many of them, music is more than an extracurricular activity. It is something they hope will carry into the rest of their lives.
These moments are joyful and energetic, and they matter just as much as the performance itself.
Why Band of Angels Matters to Us
Our support of Band of Angels is rooted in a belief we have seen proven again and again. Access changes everything.
Jonathan grew up playing the violin. Music was part of his world because he had access to an instrument, lessons, and encouragement. That access helped shape confidence, discipline, and a sense of identity. Not every child starts with those same opportunities.
The kids served by Band of Angels have the same curiosity and desire to learn. What they do not always have is access. By placing instruments into their hands and removing financial barriers, Band of Angels helps ensure that a child’s ability to explore music is not determined by circumstance.
That belief is why this work continues to matter to us year after year. It reflects what we believe strong communities do best. They show up, share opportunity, and support kids as they grow into who they are becoming.
A Community That Shows Up
Watching these young musicians prepare for the Heartstrings Gala is a reminder that when a community comes together, something powerful happens.
Some kids are stepping onto the stage for the very first time. Others are returning with more confidence than they had the year before. All of them are surrounded by people who believe in them, celebrate their effort, and cheer them on.
That kind of support stays with a child long after the music ends.
