Honored to Be Named Best Photographer in Johnson County 2025

We are honored to share that Strauss Peyton Portrait Studio has been named Best Photographer in Johnson County 2025.

While recognitions like this are often community driven, what makes this one meaningful to us is what it represents. It reflects the trust of thousands of Kansas City families who have invited us into their lives over the decades to create portrait art that celebrates connection, growth, and legacy.

This recognition feels less like a finish line and more like a reflection of the relationships that continue to shape our work, both past and present.

A Legacy That Began in 1900

Strauss Peyton’s story began more than a century ago when Ben Strauss opened the original studio in 1900. He later partnered with Homer Peyton in 1908, establishing the name that still carries through today.

When Jonathan’s father, Mark Braswell, purchased the studio in 1977, he became the fifth steward of a business that had already documented generations of Kansas Citians. In 2018, Mark passed the studio to us, continuing a legacy built on artistry, craftsmanship, and care.

Being recognized in our community today feels like a full circle moment. Not only does it honor the 125 year history behind our name, it honors the families who have returned again and again, allowing their stories to grow alongside ours.

More Than Portraits, It’s About Legacy

Over the decades, Strauss Peyton has photographed families who now bring their children and grandchildren back to continue their story.

We often hear things like, “You photographed my grandparents,” or “You created my parents’ portrait years ago, and now it’s our turn.”

One moment that stays with us came during an extended family gathering. After we finished photographing everyone, a grandmother stepped away briefly and returned holding an old portrait of her grandmother, created by Strauss Peyton decades earlier. In that single image, five generations were connected through time, family, and art.

That is what this recognition represents to us. Portraits that do more than mark a moment, and instead become part of a family’s history.

What “Best of Johnson County” Means to Us

Winning Best of Johnson County is not about competition. It is about connection.

It tells us that our commitment to artistry, authenticity, and personal service still resonates in a world that moves quickly and changes often. It affirms that families value being seen, guided, and cared for over time.

Our goal has never been to simply create a beautiful portrait in the present. It has always been to build relationships that grow as families evolve, change, and celebrate new chapters together.

We do not take that responsibility lightly.

Thank You, Johnson County

To every client, friend, and family who continues to support us and share our name with others, thank you.
